Welcome to the newest virtual exhibition from the Octagon Gallery.
Viewing artwork digitally is critical as we adapt to the Covid19 crisis. We navigate new ways to make art accessible to our patrons. The new roles of the internet and digital art spaces are important to stay connected to our family, friends and the
Octagon Gallery artists.
Stay safe and wear your masks, Octagon Gallery Curator, Nancy Nixon Ensign, 2021
I first met Molly Strong in the Patterson Library some years ago when she approached me for a solo exhibition. And like many of the virtual shows over 2020 and in 2021, the planning for her exhibition has undergone dramatic changes.
Her virtual showing of "Color and Motion" is a small and powerful body of her abstract work.
All of these signed giclees are for sale and the artists can be contacted at mollystrongart@gmail.com

"My art explores the relationships between line and form while incorporating a layered palette. As an abstract artist, I trust my instincts to guide me through my work. By embracing my intuition, I allow my paintings to evolve without restriction. "
"One of my favorite steps is creating my own color palette. The spontaneity of mixing varying tones provides a catalyst for the artwork, while lending the opportunity to give an identity and overall mood to the piece. As I continue to take risks and grow as an artist, I know I can always incorporate my innate sense of color, my appreciation for composition and most importantly my courage to create without bounds. I am currently writing and illustrating a graphic novel. As I continue to build my graphic design and photography portfolio, I am also working on a series of large abstract oil paintings."
"I have always had a love for the arts. As a child, my favorite past time was to draw and 20 years later hasn’t changed that. Elementary school report cards and middle school papers would have hand-written notes from teachers asking me to kindly stop drawing all over my homework. I started with cartoons, designing lettering, creating handmade cards for friends and family and drawing at restaurants, who would sometimes hang my work on their wall. My art evolved from these experiences. I began to gain an appreciation for fine art and have since built a collection of paintings of my own. Having the opportunity to visit nearby museums Albright-Knox Art Gallery and Burchfield Penney Art Center has given me the opportunity to view works by some of my favorite artists that continue to be a significant source of inspiration."

"Growing up in an artistic family has both inspired me and given me the confidence to be my own person. Artists Helen Frankenthaler, Lee Krasner, Charles Burchfield, Joan Miro, Wassily Kandinsky, Alexander Calder, and Cy Twombly have influenced me to find my own style and believe in it. "

"While painting I tend to stay close to the canvas. This keeps me in the moment and doesn’t give my inner critic a chance to persuade the direction of the piece. I explore different mediums in my artwork and enjoy the risk in experimenting with them."

"Some paintings I will work on continuously until the early hours of the morning.
Others I’ll put to the side and visit in a month or even a year later.
I’ll know my art is aesthetically pleasing to me when the piece vibes and communicates within itself."
