"Walking through Patterson Library's doors and inhaling that welcoming aroma of wood, marble and books fills me with nostalgia. As a girl, sitting on the floor among the stacks, perusing book after book, I had no idea that the Patterson would continue as such an important part of my life. Today, I financially am able to help our library maintain its excellent collection, support ongoing programs and develop new opportunities. I am proud to be a Patterson Society contributor to such an important community treasure."

WHO WE ARE
From 1896 to present, the Patterson Library has faithfully provided the community of Westfield and its surrounding areas with outstanding collections, programming for all ages, various types of exhibitions, state-of-the-art technology, dedicated library staff, and a magnificent facility.
The Patterson Society was created in 1990 to support the Patterson Library in its quest to meet the informational needs of its community of users. The Patterson Society is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the interests and welfare of the Patterson Library as a cultural and educational community center. To accomplish this mission, the Patterson Society donates and raises funds for purchasing library materials and sponsoring programming.

WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?
The Patterson Library is an association library, which means that, as an institution, it does not directly collect taxes from the public. Both the town and village of Westfield graciously give us funds that make up just under a third of our budget. The second third is funded through our endowment and capital funds, for building upkeep. The final third comes from grants, gifts and donations. This is where the Patterson Society works to continue the legacy of Hannah Patterson's vision of Westfield having a library of beauty and excellence!
WHO CAN JOIN?
Anyone! Even if you cannot afford a particular tier, we are happy to receive your donation and put it to use to help the Patterson Library in all of its endeavors. Help us keep Hannah's legacy alive!
